Thorin Oakenshield: me
Photography: *Revelio

Commissioned pieces
Scale Armour: The Iron Ring
Vest: Atelier Sonnenschein
Arm bracers and toe-caps: Rassaku on Etsy

Everything else was mostly made by revelio

When I saw the first images of Thorin from the movie, I was quite sad to see the costume design had done away with his sky-blue cloak that was such an iconic image from the book. So I designed my own!

See more Thorin here:

Thanks very much :)

I got Orcrist via Elbenwald.de, but you can order it from a lot of places online. Mine is by the Noble Collection, but United Cutlery also make one.

We are also beginners at making this sort of stuff. I had the biggest pieces of Thorin commissioned (the armour, and the vest and some of the leather) and the rest was very much made with trial and error. The only tips I can say is give yourself plenty of time when making something so you don't have to rush and there's time to fix mistakes or remake things. And look at lots of tutorials, or get help from friends or relative who can sew or craft. :)

We're not beginners to cosplay itself, we've been doing it for years, but really beginners at making our own stuff now we're doing more elaborate cosplays like Tolkien characters. In the past we've been able to just buy most of what we need for our cosplays, or just have to modify things a little bit. This is a whole new level now! :XD:

They started with the colourful hoods, just like the book at first (Can be seen in the artbook). But they kept the colours in a different kind of way in the end (for most of them).
However, it's great to see another version and I have to say, that your cloak looks awesome and is fitting quite well with the rest of the costume. Adore the fur on it a lot!

Yep, I know the pictures you mean, I have that book. I can understand why they did away with the cloaks and hoods, from a movie point-of-view. But I also saw it as a challenge to make this cloak as a stand-alone piece. Since reading the Hobbit as a child, I had a dream of one day having Thorin's blue cloak and so I had to make it come true for myself :D It's had a lot of nice compliments so I am very proud of it
